Abstract

Contains a draft of the orders & instructions of Lieutenant Governor Alexander Spotswood for Joseph Bannister, Commander of the spy boat, Jenny & Mary. The orders request Bannister to take charge of the tools & materials to raise a battery at Point Comfort. In addition, the orders ask him to inform the governor of any enemy ships of war standing towards the coast. Also included is a draft of the the commission of Nicholas Curle appointing him comptroller within the Lower District of the James River. Lastly, there is a draft of a warrant from the governor authorizing & empowering Maj. William Armistead, Nicholas Curle, Capt. Francis Ballard, Capt. John Moor, & George Walker to order the workmen employed on the battery & other works at Point Comfort.
