Abstract

Contains a draft of a proclamation of [Lieutenant Governor Alexander Spotswood] to the Southern Indian Nations including the Catawbas, Cherokees, & others at war with South Carolina to send a delegation of chiefs to a peace treaty meeting in Williamsburg. Spotswood requests them to cease all hostilities against South Carolina, deliver all captives, and deliver Pompey, an Indian slave, & Pope, a negro slave. Spotswood also forbids them from bringing any items for trade more than six skins per man.
