Deposition of John Bates, 1744/1745 Mar. 21.
Contains a deposition of John Bates, aged seventy years, taken before Alexander Parker regarding a tract of unpatented land between James Griffing's land & Hastings Creek. According to the deposition, Bates entered the unpatented land with Robert Brooke, late surveyor of Essex County. Bates states that he was to go in halves on the land with James Curtis, but was taken sick before he could go to Williamsburg to get a copy of the patent.
