Letter of Capt. Mariot Arbuthnot, 1756 Apr. 11.
Contains a letter from Capt. Arbuthnot of the Ship Guarland, Norfolk, to the Council regarding his orders. Arbuthnott writes that upon his arrival in October 1754, his ship repaired to Williamsburg without masts. Abruthnot also states that the orders of Admiral [Edward] Boscawen to repair to Halifax were not obeyed by the Guarland due to the unhealthiness of the crew. Lastly, he states that Admiral Boscawen appointed Capt. [Richard] Spry as commander who issued orders to Abruthnot that have superseded the previous ones.
