Petition of Peter Barlamont, 1771 Mar. 4.
Contains a petition of Peter Barlamont, master of ship the Morning Star, to William Nelson, President of the Council, asking for relief from the survey ordered by the mayor of Norfolk upon petitioner's vessel which wrecked off the coast of Virginia. According to the petition, the surveyors refused to examine that part of the hull that was underwater where the most damage occurred. The petition also complains that the surveyor's estimate of the repairs only takes into account the upperworks & rigging and neglects the expense of recovering his crew & port charges.
