Contains estimates of making a canal from the navigable water in the Eastern Branch of the Elizabeth River to the navigable water in the Southern & Northern branches of the North River from James Tait to the trustees for viewing & surveying the intended navigation between Elizabeth & North River Branches. Includes a drawing of the section of the canal by the Southern Branch & a section of the canal by the Eastern Branch. Also included is a letter from Isaac Hildrith, Norfolk, April 1774, to the trustees concerning the practicability & expense of opening a navigable communication between the Elizabeth & North Rivers. Hildrith provides a drawing of a section of the canal. In addition, there is a letter from James Tait, Norfolk, 18 April 1774, to the trustees. Lastly, there is a plat of the canal drawn by Josiah Ives, Assistant Surveyor, Norfolk County.
