Abstract

Contains the instructions of [Lieutenant Governor Alexander Spotswood] to Captain Peter Evans for his voyage to Charlestown on board the Sloop William. According to the instructions, Evans is to take an account of the quantity of provisions for the subsistence of the men under his command, apply to the Governor of South Carolina for instructions upon arrival, take charge of the forces already sent, instruct the officers & soldiers in military discipline, and not act offensively against the Indians until reasonable time be allowed for their messengers to communicate his orders for a cessation. Lastly, Spotswood requests a muster roll of all forces sent from Virginia.
