William Gooch Esq His Majesty's Lieutenant Governour and Commander in Chief of the Colony and Dominion of Virginia. To William Robertson Esq'r Greeting.
By Virtue of the Powers and Authoritys to me Given by His Majesty as Commander in Chief of this Dominion; I do hereby Constitute and Appoint you the said William Robertson Collector within the District of York River in this Colony of all the Rates Dutys and Impositions arising and growing due to His Majesty by Virtue of on act made at a Session of Assembly held by Prorogation at the Capitol the Eighteenth Day of May MDCCXXXII Entitled an Act for Laying a Duty on Liquors, and of one other Act made the Same Session of Assembly Entitled An Act for Laying a Duty upon Slaves to be paid by the Buyers. You are therefore carefully diligently to Perform the Duty of Collector of the said Rates, Dutys and Impositions by putting or causing to be putt in Execution the said Respective Acts, and every Clause and Article thereof, according to their true Intent & meaning; And you are also to observe and Follow all such orders and Directions as you shall from time to time receive from Me or the Commander in Chief for the time being, in Pursuance of the Trust hereby reposed in You. And I do hereby Give and Grant unto you the said William Robertson to have hold and Enjoy the said office of Collector of the Rates Dutys and Impositions aforesaid, with all Fees, Salarys and Perquisites hereunto belonging during Pleasure.
